The cost of hiring a skip bin
Determining the price of your skip bin hire is reliant on a variety of factors. The easiest way to receive a competitive fixed quote is to contact Jim’s via phone. We’ll ask you a few quick questions to understand your waste requirements.
How we determine the price of your bin
The following factors impact price, so any flexibility in these areas will help us and you negotiate best price and service.
Waste type
The cost of your skip bin hire will vary depending on whether you are disposing of general household, green waste, Landscaping or Construction and Demolition waste. Mixed bins (bins with more than one waste type) can be more costly as they’ll need to be manually sorted and are more labour intensive. Jim’s may also charge more for items that are harder to recycle and/or need to go to landfill, common examples include mattresses, car types, and concrete.
Skip Size
Use our bin size guide to find out how to choose the best bin size for you. We recommend choosing a larger skip bin size as a large part of the cost of skip hire is in the drop off and pick up. Hiring a bigger bin and having it delivered and picked once is more economical.
Skip Weight
Most disposal and recycling companies tend to charge on weight, so heavier products cost more to dispose of. If you’re disposing of a large amount of heavy things, such as bricks, building materials or whitegoods, your skip bin hire may be more expensive. Finding alternatives for heavy items can help bring the price down.
Landfill and other processing costs
Over the years, we’ve seen tipping costs, landfill levies, and labour and equipment all increase significantly in price. This means our costs are constantly changing and so are our pricing models.
Length of hire period
Jim’s offers skip bin hire for up to a five day period. However, we do provide flexible hire periods if you require additional time. Any additional hire days will increase the price of your skip bin hire. Knowing your hire period and offering upfront payment reduces administration costs so can also help reduce the cost of skip bin hire.
Delivery time
Depending on when you’d like your skip bin delivered, the price may vary. Peak times include delivery on Friday and Saturday and pick up on Monday. If you can be flexible on delivery and pick up times, please let us know during a quote and we’ll reflect this in your skip hire price.
Location
The location of your property or worksite may factor into the cost of your skip bin hire. If you’re wanting to place your skip bin on a nature strip, road or any other public property, you’ll require a council permit. We can advise on the cost of your specific permit, but keep in mind that it can vary from $60 to $191.
